How To Plan Your Space To Optimise Learning

room-planning

When creating an enabling environment for your early years’ setting, the layout of your space is almost as important as the learning and equipment you provide.

As you know, during the ‘early years’, children learn through play, self-discovery, and independent learning..

Key to this is providing a variety of activity areas that are dedicated to different learning experiences. For example:

  • Wet and dry areas
  • Construction
  • Home corner
  • Role play
  • Books
  • Arts and crafts
  • Mark-making
  • Heuristic play
  • Outdoor areas

For maximum learning, these areas need to be segregated to allow focused play and discovery.

It’s important that this intentional separation of play zones is balanced with a room layout that is designed to encourage children to move between the different areas.

And this is why room planning is so critical…

You see poor room design can stifle play and discovery.

You could have the best educational equipment available but if it’s not arranged in a way that allows children access to the resources, learning will be compromised.

In comparison, if your room has been carefully planned to inspire learning and discovery (whilst meeting the needs of the individual children in your setting), just imagine what’s possible…

And whilst OFSTED will of course commend you for a well-designed learning space, it’s the children who will benefit most.

The layout of your room should be frequently revisited

Things change quickly in education and a freshly arranged learning space can invigorate your setting and inspire the children in your care.

So if you have a budget for some new play equipment, why not let us plan your room at the same time?

This comprehensive service is free and is an easy way to get a fresh perspective on what’s possible for your setting’s space.

For example, we can:

  • Review how children are encouraged to move from zone to zone
  • Look at the placement of furniture to create secure learning spaces
  • Maximise the space available
  • Understand the mood and atmosphere you wish to create in your setting and plan space that promotes this
  • Suggest new equipment that meets your requirements and integrates with what you currently have

What’s more, because we have a background in education, we understand the EYFS guidelines. So rest assured your plan will comply with all the statutory requirements. We’ll also be mindful of your budget, and integrate the existing equipment you want to keep – so don’t feel you’ll be expected to start from scratch!

So if you’re keen to reinvigorate your learning space with some new equipment, please take advantage of this free room planning service (worth £1,000). Simply complete this form and we’ll get you booked in.
