This is a guest post from Adele Crozier, Childminder & Blogger from Playful Learners.
With the weather improving many of us will be turning our attention to our gardens and outdoor play areas – looking at how these areas can be enhanced these for outdoor play.
You don’t need to look long to realise that children will make their own toys and activities whilst playing outdoors. A stick becomes a wand and a tree a castle, making outdoors the perfect setting for imaginative play.
Below is a collection of activity ideas that will encourage children to play outside and explore the nature around them:
Small World Play: Create a small world area in your garden using the plants and stones to help set the scene.
Counting With Nature: Sending children out on a number hunt can help to build childrens concept of counting and numbers.
Outdoor Colour Matching: Searching for colours outdoors is a wonderful way of getting children to stop and observe what is around them.
Creating A Nature Tray: Encouraging children to collect objects they find outside is a lovely way of bringing together discussion of texture, shape and colour, aiding children’s language development.
A Nature Alphabet: This is a great game for children to play whilst getting to experiment with technology at the same time.
We’d love to hear from you – if you have any great outdoor activities to share, then tell us about it them the comment section below.
Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
